Why do feather dusters tickle?
The reason why feather dusters tickle is due to a phenomenon known as "cutaneous mechanoreception". Cutaneous mechanoreceptors are sensory receptors located in the skin that respond to mechanical stimuli like touch, pressure, and vibration. Feather dusters have soft and flexible feathers, which when brushed against the skin create a light, feathery touch that stimulates the cutaneous mechanoreceptors. The sensation generated by these receptors is interpreted as a tickling sensation by the brain, which can evoke feelings of amusement, laughter, or discomfort depending on the individual's sensitivity. Additionally, the unexpectedness of the stimulus and the contrast between the soft touch and the rougher texture of the feathers may contribute to the ticklish feeling.Tick Bites - Related Articles
