Tetanus and Rat Snake Bites: What You Need to Know
Tetanus shots are not recommended for rat snake bites.
Rat snakes are non-venomous snakes. In the unlikely event that you are bitten by a rat snake, wash the bite area with soap and water and apply a clean bandage. If the bite is deep or bleeding heavily, seek medical attention.
Tetanus is a serious bacterial infection that can cause muscle spasms and paralysis. Tetanus is not typically associated with rat snake bites, but it is a good idea to be vaccinated against tetanus regardless of whether or not you have been bitten by a snake.
