How to Dissolve Splinters
Wood splinters are painful, especially when embedded deep in the skin. Using tweezers or a needle just pushes it further into the skin. Instead, dissolve the splinter under the skin by creating a poultice with baking soda and water.Things You'll Need
- Soap
- Water
- Paper towel
- 1 tbsp. baking soda
- Cotton swab
- Gauze
- Bandage
Instructions
Wash the affected area with soap and water and pat it dry with a paper towel.
Mix 1 tbsp. of baking soda with a small amount of water until the mixture becomes a thin paste.
Dip a cotton swab into the baking soda and water mixture, and apply it so the entire area of the splinter is covered.
Wrap a gauze or a bandage over the baking soda and water mixture. Leave the bandage on for 24 hours.
Remove the bandage. The baking soda and water mixture should dislodge the splinter, drawing it to the skin's surface for easy removal.
Disinfect the area with soap and water.
