Effective Whitefly Soap Recipe & DIY Guide for Gardeners
Whiteflies aren't actually flies, but they are a nuisance to gardeners. The adults lay eggs in a circle around the plant while feeding, creating spirals in eggs. Adult whiteflies tap into the veins of plants and suck up the juices (phloem sap) to feed. They also secrete a slime that attracts other insects, creating a bigger infestation. Making whitefly soap is a way to remove whiteflies manually. The mixture is easy to make; however, you will have to be aggressive in your treatment of the whiteflies.Things You'll Need
- 1 gallon water
- 2 tbsp. baking soda
- 2 tbsp. dish detergent
- 2 tbsp. white vinegar
- Spray bottle
Instructions
Put water, baking soda, dish detergent and vinegar into spray bottle.
Put top on bottle and shake to mix ingredients.
Spray mixture under each leaf where eggs, adults and scales reside.
