Neither malaria nor yellow fever is spread by insects. Malaria is caused by a parasite called Plasmodium, which is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito. Yellow fever is caused by a virus and is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti mosquito.
