What does rickets do to people?
Rickets is a condition in children caused by a deficiency of vitamin D, calcium and phosphorus. It leads to soft bones that can become so weakened they bend and cause skeletal deformities.
Signs and symptoms of rickets may include:
- Bone pain
- Muscle weakness and fatigue
- Bone deformities, such as bowed legs or a curved spine
- Delayed growth
- Rickets can also lead to dental problems, such as weak or decayed teeth.
In severe cases, rickets can cause life-threatening complications, such as heart failure and respiratory problems.
