Understanding Trace Blood in Urine (Hematuria): Causes & What to Do
Trace Blood in Urine (also called hematuria) means that your urine has a small amount of blood in it. Urine normally does not contain blood - so if there is blood it likely means that something is amiss.
Trace amounts of blood in the urine can be caused by a number of factors that typically are not harmful or related to a serious medical problem. These include strenuous activity, a fever, or having recently taken a blood thinner medication (such as aspirin).
However, blood in the urine should not be ignored. Since it can be a warning sign of a serious medical condition, it's important to have it checked out by a doctor right away. The sooner you seek treatment, the sooner the cause of the bleeding can be identified and treated, if needed.
