Excision: Definition, Types & Surgical Procedures

The medical term for "cutting out" is excision. Excision is a surgical procedure in which tissue or a growth is surgically removed from the body. Some examples of excision procedures are lumpectomy (removal of a tumor from the breast), appendectomy (removal of the appendix), and tonsillectomy (removal of the tonsils).
