Understanding Acidity: pH Levels and Properties
Acidic refers to something with a pH value of less than 7. The pH scale is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a substance. It ranges from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. Substances with a pH below 7 are acidic, while those above 7 are alkaline (or basic).
Acids release hydrogen ions (H+) into the solution, thus contributing to the excess in that solution while also making it react in certain situations or interact with bases in a neutralization reaction resulting in formation of a salt with water as a byproduct.
