Clustered Water: Understanding the Science and Claims
According to the Department of Chemistry at Simon Fraser University, it is generally accepted that water molecules group together, for a fraction of a second, to form "clusters" consisting of repeating structural units. These clusters are believed to give water its unusual and unique properties.-
Pseudo Science
-
Proponents of clustered water claim that it is beneficial to health because it hydrates cells more quickly and removes toxins from the body. There is, however, no significant support from the scientific community for these claims.
Cluster Properties
-
Clusters of water molecules only exist for one trillionth of a second at a time. They have no physical properties that can be observed directly.
Scientific Model
-
The model of water currently favored by the scientific community is a loosely connected network of molecules, which undergoes constant rearrangement. This model has been hijacked by some water vendors, who claim to use sound waves or electrolysis to break up this single cluster into smaller, more beneficial clusters.
