Osteomalacia Treatment: Understanding and Potential Cures
In most cases, osteomalacia is a curable condition. Treatment usually involves increasing the intake of vitamin D and calcium, either through diet or supplements. In severe cases, treatment may also include medications such as bisphosphonates or calcitriol. In people with rickets, treatment must be started early to prevent deformities as the child grows.
For people with genetic forms of osteomalacia, lifelong treatment with vitamin D and calcium is usually necessary. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to correct severe bone deformities or fractures.
