Poliomyelitis: Understanding Human Susceptibility & Transmission

The susceptible host of poliomyelitis is humans. Poliovirus, the causative agent of poliomyelitis, primarily infects humans and occasionally some non-human primates such as chimpanzees and monkeys. Other animals, including common household pets like dogs, cats, or cows, are generally not susceptible to poliovirus infection.
