Creating Fawn Colors: Color Mixing Guide & Recipes
For a Basic Light Fawn Color- Mix burnt sienna, with a bit of white.
- Add a tiny amount of Payne's gray or black to cool it.
- Add cadmium orange to warm the mix.
- To adjust the brightness, add more white.
For a Gray to Brown Fawn
- Mix white, burnt sienna and a touch of black to get the basic fawn.
- Then, add a bit of Payne's Gray.
For a Yellow-Based Fawn
- Mix cadmium yellow medium and burnt umber.
- Add a small bit of raw umber to deepen the color.
- To bring in red tones, add a touch of cadmium red light or venetian red.
- To cool it slightly, add a tiny amount of ultramarine blue.
For a Brown Fawn
- Mix burnt umber, light red and a touch of green.
- To adjust the hue, add more or less of any of the mixed colors.
