CPR Bag-Valve Mask Ventilation: When and How to Use

Bag-mask ventilation should not be performed unless an advanced airway has been secured first (endotracheal intubation or similar definitive method of airway management). However, it is reasonable for laypeople or emergency-responders with minimal medical training to provide rescue breaths during CPR when they do not feel confident placing an advanced airway.
