What to do if you stop breathing?
If you stop breathing, someone needs to call 911 immediately. While waiting for help to arrive, there are a few things that can be done to try to restore breathing:
1. Check the person's airway. Make sure that there is nothing blocking the person's airway, such as food, vomit, or a foreign object. If there is something blocking the airway, try to remove it by using your fingers or a spoon. If the person is unconscious and not breathing, do not attempt to put your fingers in the person's throat to try to clear food; that can make them choke even more.
2. Start CPR. If the person is not breathing, you should begin administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). CPR is a lifesaving technique that can help to keep blood flowing to the person's brain and heart until medical help arrives.
3. Use an automated external defibrillator (AED). If an AED is available, use it on the person after starting CPR. AEDs are devices that can help to restore a person's heart rhythm in the event of a cardiac arrest.
It is important to remember that if someone stops breathing, every second counts. Quick action can help to save a person's life.
