Blowholes in Metal Casting: Causes, Effects, and Prevention

Blowheart is a defect in a metal casting caused by air entrapment during pouring. As the air escapes when the solidifying liquid metal stops flowing to occupy its space, internal voids will be formed within the structure of the final cast product with their surfaces oxidised from contact with surrounding hot iron.
