Essential Oil Inhalation: A Guide to Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy techniques include various ways of using the essential oils. One of the methods is inhaling the oil. Essential oils can be added to a steam bath and inhaled, or placed on a cloth and inhaled. While many preparations require essential oils to be blended, inhalation does not, making it a convenient and portable method of aromatherapy that can be performed in almost any situation.Things You'll Need
- Handkerchief or tissue
- Bowl of hot water and towel
- Oil burner or diffuser
Instructions
Choose your essential oil. Each type of oil will have different health benefits.
Apply a few drops of essential oil to a handkerchief or tissue. Hold the item underneath the nose without touching the skin and breathe deeply. This is a portable method of inhalation which can be used in almost any circumstance.
Heat a bowl of water so it is hot but not boiling. Add a few drops of essential oil to the bowl. Hold your head over the bowl and drape with a towel. Breathe deeply, inhaling the steam.
Use an essential oil burner or diffuser to scent an entire area with aromatherapy oils. Each burner will have a different method of setup and function. Many require that water be added to the bowl or bulb, and a few drops of aromatherapy oil is added to the water. When the water heats, it diffuses the smell of the oils over a particular area.
