Relief for Itchy Legs: Causes, Treatments & Prevention
There are many reasons why legs can feel itchy. It could be caused by dermatitis, or eczema, which is an inflammation of the skin caused by almost anything -- irritation, allergy or rash -- and causes the need to itch the skin. Bug bites, from mosquitoes or even fleas can be the cause for itchy legs. It can also be a result of dry skin, depending on the weather. During the winter, skin tends to be dry and starts to get itchy. You can do each step alone or as a whole regimen.Things You'll Need
- Coffee grounds
- Instant oatmeal
- Cheesecloth
- Chamomile essential oil
- Lavender essential oil
- Aloe Vera gel
Instructions
Brew a pot of coffee then use the grounds, after they have cooled, as a pumice for your legs. This will help slough off dead skin, and the caffeine can help to relieve itching by revitalizing the skin. Rinse your legs with warm water.
Fill a bath with warm water. Place a cup full of instant oatmeal in a piece of cheesecloth and tie it off. Wet the ball and squeeze the milking substance of the oatmeal into the bath. Soak in this for no less than 15 minutes. Oatmeal is used to help relieve itch by many skin care companies.
Purchase some alcohol-free Aloe Vera gel -- alcohol dries the skin and will make your legs itch more -- and mix a couple drops of both chamomile essential oil and lavender essential oil and mix well. Rub this mixture on your clean exfoliated legs. The oils will help to relieve the itch and the Aloe will help with the healing process of bug bites and dermatitis.
